Post 10: Do we ever stop reflecting?

It's interesting because as this blog comes to an end in the sense that words will no longer be typed onto this site/computer. I don't think that it will come to an end in my mind. Perhaps, this blog is more like a journal of reflection and inquiry. As I have read and responded to others peoples posts, I sit back and think that there is still so much to reflect on and collaborate on.

Some topics that I would like to dive deeper into and research are: why don't we fail students, what does it mean to fail? Since we are moving away from percentages to competency based reporting what does that look like for you as a teacher? Does it change your assessment or do you just do the same?

I honestly don't think we ever stop reflecting as teachers. I think we are always wondering in our minds about whether that lesson went the way we intended?, did I do a good job?, how did I react in that situation? And I think it is okay. I think reflecting is healthy and something we should always do to get better. The times of teaching have changed since I was in school, and if we don't reflect how will we ever evolve?

It's scary to think that maybe something I'm doing now won't be "right" in twenty years, but it is what it is.

I wonder, do you reflect often? How does it impact your life and work?

  1. Hi Daniela,
I enjoyed reading your post on reflection. It's funny, after finishing teachers college I never thought I'd want to talk about reflection again (we reflected A LOT!). But as you mentioned, I do find I reflect in various aspects of my teaching. Often at the end of the day I find this happens in conversations with my colleagues. We chat about things that worked in class that day, and also about the things that were a disaster! I think it's a great sign that most of us really do want to improve, and always want to give our students the best we can.
Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!
